Legend has it that the year was 1919, when the charismatic Conte Camillo Negroni entered the Cafe Casoni in Florence and asked the bartender Fosco Scarselli to "strengthen" his Americano. Fosco Scarselli opted for gin to replace the soda in the Americano. From that day on, the Conte only ordered "the usual" and his imitators eventually demanded the "Conte Negroni Style Americano", and not much later the Negroni was born as a drink made from bitters, Vermouth and gin.
