Punt e Mes is a legend of Italian aperitif culture. Its origins can be traced back to a stockbroker who, in 1870, ordered a vermouth with half a measure of bitters at the Bottega Carpano in Turin, using the expression “Punt e Mes” (meaning “one point and a half”). The blend of sweet vermouth and bitter herbs quickly became a classic. Regulars soon began ordering it simply by raising their thumb (Punt) and making a horizontal hand gesture (Mes). With its perfect balance of seductive citrus aromas and spicy bitter notes, Punt e Mes remains a favorite to this day. Served over ice with a slice of orange peel, it is Italy’s quintessential aperitif.
